The Work before the holidays
"It's the most wonderful time of the year!" Until it isn't.
When we spend more time with family (or miss them), when we eat more, drink more, exercise less, when we spend more and interact more with people that might irritate us... things come up!
This is why this time can be so difficult.
It is the perfect time to dig into our practice of questioning our own thinking. Because it isn't the people "out there" that cause stress, but our stories about said people.
This is why the work is so critical to my peace of mind this time of year. Triggered? I write it down, call a friend or do self-inquiry. It works so well, I am not sure how I managed without it.
Perhaps "managed" is the keyword. When I want to go beyond simply managing, to consider digging in, loving, appreciating this life, I do the work. It is my shot at serenity.
Join me and other local teachers to learn this practice, with the intention of establishing your own practice.

The Work of Byron Katie, back to basics
It is a new year! For me, this means going back to basics and a recommitment to practice.
Please join me as I explain the process, trowing in a little evolutionary psychology, and practice together. It will be wonderful to see you all again.
What I love about "the work" is we use the very thought that bums us out, to elevate us from our funk. Poison as medicine.
This simple process has changed so much and brought light to my mind so much faster than I would have ever imagined.
This monthly session is open to beginners and experts alike.

Workshop: Right and Left Brain Thinking
I noticed spending time with family this Christmas, that my mind seemed to operate in two modes. One mode was the comparing, judgemental mind. The one that was talking to me, saying "we should not be disagreeing with each other at the dinner table, this is terrible" or "I wish I had a beautiful home like my sisters". Then, sometimes, my mind would go into what I now call "living mode", where I just was. Where I would watch my relatives with appreciation and gratitude and not overthink everything, in the conventional sense of thinking. That space got quite creative and fun and was able to ride the "less agreeable" aspects of family time without undue drama. Continued here...

Public Workshop: Question you assumtions, holiday edition, Part 2
In our last workshop we looked into what it was about the holidays that drive us crazy. Who and what trigger us and why. Then we wrote worksheets about those situations. The results were mind blowing! We noticed that the holidays seem to heighten complaints we have during the year. Complaints we have been carrying a lifetime! Such a powerful place to notice what is going on in this mind.
We will keep at it this month, it is my wish that we be as clear and joyous as possible this holiday season. I know doing the work on my stressful beliefs is so effective and leaves me in a place of peace and gratitude. And no one has to change! I don't need to understand or change anyone, just my thinking. Peace!
All are welcome.
A 10-20$ donation to the NM Soccer Foundation grately appreciated (bring cash, check or donate online here: http://www.nmsoccerfoundation.org/donate

Public Workshop: Question you assumtions, holiday edition
"It's the most wonderful time of the year". If you are like me, these holiday jingles drive you crazy. It feels like everyone wants me to be happy but I often find myself the least happy of the year. The gift of holiday stress should not be overlooked. All those assumptions that drive me nuts, such as, "I should happily purchase and receive gifts", "My kids should be gracious" "my in laws should agree with my political views" "my sister shouldn't live so far away" belong on paper and questioned. Life beyond my complaints (which do not seem to change much year to year) is much sweeter, more peaceful. I can enjoy the time off, the family and the food. Join us for an afternoon of inquiring into holiday complaints, or anything else that steals your precious peace of mind.

Inquiry Workshop for beginner and advanced practitioners
Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. Dalai Lama
This month I invite you to notice the energy of kindness. What does it feel like to live out of that mental space?
Bring to mind a time when you felt driven by kindness. This could be with a patient or client, having open communication with a friend in need, opening a door for someone, hugging a child. Notice how that energy feels. Notice the ease and efficiency of it. Living is easy in those moments.
Notice when you leave this energy. The thoughts and stories that pull us out of that peaceful way of being belong on paper. The validity of these thoughts need to be questioned. When we do this using inquiry, we can return to that easy state of kindness.
Join us for an afternoon of questioning. We will review the basics of this process and question the assumptions we make about this world that keep us trapped in the opposite of kindness: stress, dis-ease, fatigue.
This monthly workshop is open to beginner and advanced practitioners and is a delightful way to meet people. I have enjoyed it immensely.
Cost: 10-20$ depending on income (you choose). All donations go to the New Mexico Soccer Foundation. We help low income kids afford soccer fees so they can stay healthy. Bring cash or check or donate here.

Introduction to The Work: How to do the work in every day life
Stress is a wonderful indicator telling us that we are believing in a thought that isn't true. Next time you feel that discomfort, notice what thought preceded it.
Once we notice what these thoughts are, we can inquire into their truth through the process of "the work". This allows us to see clearly where we are not thinking straight, where we are hurting ourselves by believing our thoughts.

University of British Columbia Radiology Workshop: Receiving Feedback
Receiving negative feedback is amongst the most stressful events in medicine. Certainly in radiology, where interpretations and images sit side by side, this can be seen as shame and can can lead to significant stress and even depression. Burn out is compounded by being told we made a mistake.
How can we use negative feedback as a source of inspiration or a call to learn something about ourselves? This three hour workshop will explore practices that can help turning receiving feedback into a positive event.
